Tips and Recipes for Healthy Lips

Lips are one of the most important parts of our face and their appearance makes us more or less attractive. Plump, soft and beautiful lips is always a must, but how will you get them?

Follow our simple tips, and if you like making your own handmade cosmetics, try our easy recipes. Easiest ways to get healthy and smooth lips:

Tip 1: Exfoliate your lips

Use a natural lip scrub that will exfoliate your lips, remove dead cells and give shine to dry, chapped and dehydrated lips.

Exfoliate 1–2 times per week ideally before going to bed. Apply a small amount of scrub onto your lips and exfoliate away any dry or dead skin. Wash away with lukewarm water and then apply a moisturizing lip balm.

Moisturization is the most important step in your lip care routine. Lips are one of the most sensitive areas in your face and they need proper care, especially when temperatures fall. Cold weather and dry air can cause dryness and lips get cracked and itchy. To prevent and repair chapped lips, use a natural lip balm and apply as often as needed. Avoid lip balms with ingredients (parabens, synthetic fragrances and colors) than may dry out your lips and opt for more natural formulas.

Tip: Apply your lip balm before you go to bed. The active ingredients of your balm will deeply nourish and moisturize your lips.

As you already know, prolonged sun exposure is harmful for your skin, but also for your lips. In fact, as your lips are very sensitive and thin, they need extra pampering to stay healthy and smooth. During summertime, protect them from the sun with a SPF lip balm.

Tip 4: Remove your lipstick before going to bed

Don’t forget to remove your make up and lipstick before going to bed. Avoid using cleansing wipes as they may dehydrate your lips. Instead follow this tip: Apply small amount of your favorite natural oil onto your lips and let it sit for 2-3 minutes. Then use a cotton pad and gently remove it. You will effectively remove your lipstick and at the same time keep your lips moisturized and protected.

Extra tip: Try to avoid matt lipsticks as they tend to dehydrate your lips and opt for products with more liquid formulas.

Tip 5: Apply hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a sugar that occurs naturally in your body. It hydrates the skin and keeps tissues lubricated. Hyaluronic acid is a great humectant; it holds up to 1000 times its weight in water and draws moisture into the skin. Bad news is that time passing and bad habits such as an unhealthy diet and smoking can cause you to make less of it over time and that’s why you need to use skin care products with hyaluronic acid to prevent the signs of aging. Applying a lip serum with hyaluronic acid, will help you get fuller, more voluminous lips.

Tip: After the use of the lip serum, apply a thick layer of your lip balm on to your lips to seal in moisture.
