There’s nothing more relaxing than a day spent at the spa, but if visiting one seems too expensive or it doesn’t fit your schedule, you can check our tips and ideas and create your own spa at home. Follow the steps and enjoy the calming and rejuvenating experience!
Set the scene
Make sure your bathroom is clean and grab a lot of towels. Gather everything you will need (candles, care products, tools) before starting. Switch off your phone and dim the lights. Put on your favorite music or some relaxing music with nature sounds.
It is a good idea to light a candle to bring some calm into your space. We recommend soy wax candles that allow the gradual release of the scents, creating a more pleasant atmosphere. A soy wax candle can also be used while burning as a body cream or massage oil, making it ideal for a spa day at home.

Take a hot bath
Fill your tube with hot water and add in your favorite essential oils. Essential oils have plenty of benefits that make them ideal for aromatherapy, revitalization and calming.
If you wish to soothe stressed and tired muscles add some Epsom Salts to relieve the pain. And for some relaxing and detoxifying effect opt for bath bombs. If you don’t have any of these, just add ingredients found in your kitchen, like honey, milk or dried herbs.
Care for your body
Exfoliate
When you exfoliate during the week, you hurry up and don’t take care of all the areas of your body. Now is the time to do some deep cleansing.
Exfoliation removes dead cells, evens skin tone, helps your moisturizers penetrate deeper and keeps your skin looking healthy.
Choose a body scrub with large grains or an exfoliating soap (this or this). Apply to damp skin and rub in gentle, circular motions. Don’t forget your feet and ankles and pay extra attention to your thighs.
Moisturize
After exfoliating, it is very important to stay moisturized. Moisturization is the key to healthy skin: sooths and softens the skin, offers hydration, provides deep nourishment, protects from harmful environmental factors, fights dry skin, and gives shine.
Most probably you use a body lotion in your everyday routine, and quickly apply it after your morning shower. That is fine, but now you can really pamper yourself.
Opt for a rich body cream or a nourishing body butter (shea butter is ideal), apply to all parts of your body and wait until it is fully absorbed. To seal in moisture you can apply your favorite body oil on top.
If you prefer body oils rather than body creams and butters, use a natural oil like jojoba oil or a mixture of your favorite oils and use it while your skin is still damp because damp skin absorbs the product better.
Care for your face
Face steaming
Face steaming provides a calming sensation and has a lot of benefits for your skin: it promotes circulation, cleanses your skin, removes sebum and helps your skin better absorb your moisturizing products. Plus, it is an inexpensive and easy method that can be done at home.
Fill a small pot with boiled water and add your favorite essential oil or some dried petals and herbs. Cover your head with a towel and lean over the pot for 5 minutes.
Face scrub
Your pores are opened up and your skin is super soft. It’s time for a scrub. Opt for a mild face scrub and use circular motions to massage it onto the skin. If you don’t have a face scrub, you can make one out of ingredients in your kitchen. Just mix 1 tbsp coffee grounds and 1 tbsp. olive oil. This face scrub offers mild exfoliation, removes dead cells and gives shine to your skin.
Face mask
Facial steam and scrub have opened up your pores, cleared the dirt, and removed dead cells and excessive sebum. Now apply a face mask to seal in the moisture. If you don’t have one, do a homemade by mixing 1 tbsp Greek yogurt and 1 tbsp. honey. Apply to the face and leave on for 10 minutes.
Moisturizer
Wash off your face mask with lukewarm water and apply your favorite moisturizing product (serum, face cream, face oil). With this step you ensure that your skin remains moisturized and sooth.
Facial Massage
A home spa day must definitely include a facial massage. Facial massages have multiple benefits for your skin as they:
- Help to stimulate blood circulation. The production of collagen is promoted and fine lines and wrinkles are reduced.
- Help with lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness.
- Tighten and tone the facial muscles.
- Improve product absorption. The skin is nourished and deeply moisturized.
Use a jade roller or a gua sha. Both tools relieve stress, improve your mood, and act as an everyday feel-good ritual.

Treat your hair
Choose a natural oil of your preference. We recommend Laouta Repair hair oil.
Put some oil on your scalp and massage really well to stimulate blood flow. Then apply it to your hair and gently rub it into the ends. Wrap a towel around your hair and let it work for min. 30 minutes. Then wash it off with shampoo as usual.
Hair oils hydrate, increase hair thickness, protect your hair from breakage and keep your roots and scalp moisturized. Scalp massage has a relaxing effect, reduces tension and acts as stress relief.
Mani-Pedi
First of all remove any old nail polish. Then trim your nails to the desired length and use a buffer to smooth out the tops of your nails. Push back your cuticles carefully and then apply a natural oil (jojoba oil, almond oil) to the tops of your nails and cuticles. Gently rub it in and let it absorb.
