Argan Oil Uses and Benefits for Skin and Hair

What is argan oil

Argan oil is a plant-based oil derived from the kernels of the fruit of argan tree native to Morocco. It is a consumable oil but it is also used in beauty products as it has beneficial properties for the skin and hair.

Pure, organic argan oil has a golden yellow color, a mild nutty scent and is relatively lightweight, so it is easily absorbed.

It is rich in vitamins A, E and C, fatty acids Ω3 and Ω6 and many antioxidants.

Benefits of Argan Oil

  • It is a powerful antioxidant

Because argan oil is rich in antioxidants, it protects the skin’s surface from oxidative damage caused by free radicals.

  • It has anti-aging benefits

It hydrates the skin and eliminates fine lines and wrinkles. It protects from premature aging and tightens the skin.

  • It deeply moisturizes

It nourishes the skin and helps it retain its moisture. Extremely beneficial to dehydrated skin. It protects from environmental factors and sun exposure.

  • It heals

Argan oil can help to fade existing scars, helps the healing process of burned skin, minimizes stretch marks and scars and prevents the appearance of black spots.

  • It soothes

It calms irritated skin, reduces dryness and itchiness and soothes sensitive and tired skin.

  • It acts against acne

Argan oil helps to balance oil production levels, reduces areas of skin inflammation and prevents pimples.

  • It can be used as a natural eczema treatment

Argan oil may help in the treatment of dermatological diseases such as psoriasis and eczema.

  • It improves the health of your hair and scalp

Argan oil restores dull hair, promotes faster growth, prevents breakage and improves hair texture. It can also make your hair color last longer and tame frizzy hair. It is beneficial to the scalp, as it reduces dryness and itching and can be used as a natural dandruff treatment.

  • It is great for nail care

Argan oil can help to strengthen your nails and soften your cuticles.

How to use it

On the face

  • Cleansing

Apply small amount of your oil on the face and neck and gently massage. Use a wet face towel or reusable cotton pads to remove it.

  • Toning

Just add some drops of your oil in your toner and apply as usual.

  • Moisturizing

Apply small amount on clean face and gently massage until it is absorbed. Another way is to apply it after your moisturizing cream to seal in moisture.

  • Anti-aging treatment

Add small amounts of argan oil in your night cream and apply every night.

For an extensive treatment, apply 2-3 drops of argan oil on your face and neck, and massage using a massage tool like gua sha.

  • Areas with dermatological problems

If you are not a fan of oils and do not like using them over the entire face, apply your argan oil only on small areas (areas with acne, spots, etc.).

On the body

  • As a moisturizer

Apply argan oil on clean skin shortly after cleansing. It is preferable to use it while your skin is still damp because damp skin absorbs the product better.

You can also add small amount of your oil in your body lotion or apply it just after you have applied your lotion to seal in moisture.

  • To fight dryness topically

Argan oil can be applied topically to fight dryness. It is perfect to soften elbows, knees, heels, hands. Tip: Remember to do some peeling first to remove dead cells.

  • For massage

Argan oil is ideal for massage and can be used alone or mixed with other oils (jojoba oil, avocado oil, castor oil, etc.). You can also add your favorite essential oil and make your massage a whole new experience!

  • Special treatment

Argan oil is reported to have helped a lot of people who have dermatological issues like eczema and psoriasis. It may improve or even heal them, so give it a try!

  • Nail care

Put your fingers on a small bowl with argan oil for about 5 minutes. Alternatively, pour some oil on a cotton pad and rub into the nail bed and cuticle.

On hair

Apply once or twice a week and rub into the ends of your hair.

If you face problems with dryness, itchiness, dandruff, put some oil on your scalp and massage really well. Wrap a towel around your hair and let it work for min. 30 minutes. Then wash it off with shampoo as usual.
