The proper skincare can delay signs of aging and shield your skin from environmental damage. Following the right skin care routine keeps your skin clean, hydrated and protected.
Knowing the benefits of every skin care product and adding it to your daily routine is very important for your skin’s health. So if, for example, you are not aware of the benefits of exfoliation and you don’t use face scrubs, you are not boosting cell renewal and you don’t get rid of clogged pores.
Knowing the right order to apply your skin care products is also essential for a proper skin care routine. For example, there’s no point in applying a moisturizer on your face if you haven’t properly cleansed it before.
Knowing the right amount of each skincare product you should apply, is the third basic skincare rule. In this article you will learn how much you need to use.
Cleanser

The right amount depends on the type of your cleanser.
– If you are using a foam cleanser, one pump is enough.
– If you are using a lotion to remove impurities and pollutants, an amount of the size of a 50 cent euro coin should be enough. When you want to remove make up as well, add half of this amount.
– If you are using a cleansing gel to cleanse and remove make up, apply an amount of the size of a 50 cent euro coin. Cleansing gels create a lot of foam and this amount should be enough.
- Using less product than required, will let your skin dirty. This may result to clogged pores and dull appearance.
- Using too much, might dehydrate your skin and even cause some irritations.
Facial scrub

You should use a face scrub 1-2 times a week. Exfoliation removes dead cells and keeps your skin clean and healthy. Dead cells cause dullness and clog your skin pores preventing active ingredients from penetrating into your skin. Face scrubs expose healthy cells and regenerate your skin.
Use a 50 cent-sized amount and focus on the T zone (forehead, nose, and chin).
- If you apply less product, you won’t have the desired result because you won’t be able to exfoliate all the areas of your face.
- If you apply too much of your scrub, you might irritate your skin and cause dryness and redness.
Face mask
Using a beauty mask is not one of the main steps of a skin care routine, but still, it is recommended to apply one once a week or whenever you feel that your skin needs some extra pampering.
Use an amount that will be enough to cover your entire face.
Eye cream

The skin around the eyes is thinner, more delicate and more sensitive than the skin on the rest of your face. Eye creams are products that are formulated specifically for this sensitive area. They contain active ingredients that fight the signs of aging (free lines and wrinkles), and reduce black circles and swelling.
For each eye, use an amount of the size of a grain of rice.
- Using less product may lead to dehydrated skin and signs of premature aging.
- Overusing your eye cream may irritate your eyes and cause redness and itchiness in the area around them.
Serum

Serums are lightweight products and are easily absorbed. They contain high concentrations of powerful ingredients, such as antioxidants, peptides, hyaluronic acid and retinol, and provide targeted results. They reduce fine lines and offer elasticity and firming.
The ideal amount depends on the type of your serum, but usually 3-4 drops are enough.
- Using too less of the product won’t make any difference on your skin.
- Using too much of it, may harm your skin and cause irritations, especially if your serum contains retinol or vitamin C.
Moisturizer

Moisturizers are essential for the skin, because they keep it hydrated and protect it from environmental factors. A moisturizer should be applied every day throughout the year regardless of the skin type. And of course you should not neglect your neck because just like your face, it is exposed every day to all the harmful factors.
Use a 20 cent-sized amount to cover your face and another half of it to apply on your neck.
- If you apply less, you may end up with dehydrated skin, fine lines and other signs of premature aging.
- If you apply too much, you may cause oiliness and clogged pores.
