7 Natural Ways for Beautiful and Well-Rested Eyes

Eyes are considered to be the most important part of our face and their appearance makes us more or less attractive. Dark circles, under-eye bags, swelling, fine lines and wrinkles are common problems that make us look tired and older than we are.

Following simple and easy tips, you can maintain a healthy and youthful look. These are the 7 natural ways for beautiful and well-rested eyes:

1. Hydrate

As you already know, water is essential for your health. When your skin is dehydrated it can become more vulnerable and prone to fine lines and wrinkles. The area around the eyes is one of the most sensitive and delicate areas of your body and one of the first to show the signs of dehydration.

Make sure to drink enough water during the day to keep your body hydrated and restore its natural hydration level.

2. Sleep well

There are no tips and tricks you can follow to make up for lost sleep. It may seem as a luxury but sleeping for 8 hours straight during the night, is the most effective way to get healthy and well-rested look.

Keep in mind that your sleeping position also plays a huge role. Avoid stomach sleeping as it increases fluid retention leading to puffiness.

Invest in silk bed sheets to improve the quality of your sleep. Silk sheets are gentle to the skin and let it “breathe”.

3. Adopt a healthy lifestyle

Eating healthy food, quitting smoking and avoiding alcohol can prevent the signs of premature aging. Bad habits (smoking, drinking too much alcohol, having a poor diet in vitamins and antioxidants) and environmental factors (such as sun exposure and pollution) result in the form of free radicals. Free radicals damage the skin and lead to signs of aging: fine lines, wrinkles, black circles, and dullness. Antioxidants found in healthy food, fight free radicals, help the cells produce collagen and reduce hyperpigmentation and dark circles.

Reducing your salt intake is also a very important factor for maintaining a healthy and youthful look. Consuming too much salt causes puffiness and under-eye bags, making you look tired and older than you are.

4. Wear sunscreen and sun glasses

The sun is the worst enemy of your skin. The harmful UVA rays damage unprotected skin and cause premature aging and wrinkles.

Wear a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day, even if it is cloudy outside, and don’t leave the area around your eyes exposed. During summertime re-apply as frequently as necessary and don’t forget to wear sunglasses.

5. Use an eye cream

Eye creams are products specially formulated for the thin and sensitive area around the eyes. Their active ingredients target specific issues and you must be careful when choosing the right eye cream for you.

If you are concerned about fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, opt for an eye cream or eye serum with peptides or retinol.

7. Apply natural ingredients

Sometimes you can solve a skin problem using natural ingredients found in your kitchen. Follow these tips:

Chamomile bags to sooth irritations

Pouring chamomile from a pot

If you suffer from tired eyes or experience itchy eyes, put some warm chamomile bags on them for 10 minutes. Chamomile has antimicrobial properties and is ideal to sooth and calm irritations.

Caution: Avoid using chamomile if you are allergic to it. Instead soak a pair of reusable cotton pads in warm water and place them on your eyes for 10 minutes.

Refreshing cucumber to get rid of black circles

Cucumber has antioxidant properties and with its cooling effect it refreshes and regenerates the skin.

If you have black circles under the eyes, place two slices of cold cucumber on them for 10 minutes. Alternatively you can blend together one half of a cucumber and an ice cube until a paste is formed. Apply small amount of the paste in two cotton pads and then put them on your eyes for 10 minutes.

Tea bags to reduce swelling

Tea is rich in tannins and caffeine and has strong anti-inflammatory properties. If you suffer from under-eye swelling, use tea bags. Steep two tea bags in hot water for 5-10 minutes, squeeze out any excess water and then chill in the fridge for 10 minutes. Apply them to closed eyes for 10 minutes.

Coconut oil for extra hydration

Coconut oil is rich in vitamins, antioxidants and fatty acids. It has moisturizing and anti-aging properties, offers deep nourishment and protects from harsh weather conditions.

If you want to fight fine lines and deeply moisturize the area around your eyes, use coconut oil as a night eye cream. Make sure your skin is properly cleansed and apply small amount on the area around your eyes before you go to sleep.

General tips for glowing skin around the eyes

 Reduce screen time

Try to reduce screen time and make sure to take short breaks throughout the day to rest your eyes.

Don’t rub your eyes

If your eyes are itching and stinging avoid rubbing them as the condition will worsen. Visit an ophthalmologist.

Remove make-up

Never go to sleep without removing your make-up first. Your skin needs to breath and only if you properly cleanse it, you enable it to regenerate.

Exercise

Exercise is essential for your overall health. It boosts blood circulation, increases lymph flow decreasing eye puffiness and dark circles.
